Minesweeper installed: first hour

After LibreMines opens, prove one local minesweeper game before you chase themes, keyboard shortcuts, or alternate package doors. Success is a cleared cell on hardware you control.

Windows users should have extracted libremines-*-windows-qt6.zip and launched libremines.exe. macOS users should have dragged the Qt6 DMG app to Applications. Linux users should have marked the Qt6 AppImage executable.

Confirm the window

You should see the start screen with easy, medium, hard, and custom field choices. If the window never appears, return to the Releases asset and re-download. Safe path: download safe.

  • Windows: run libremines.exe from the extracted folder
  • macOS: launch from Applications; Gatekeeper help is linked upstream
  • Linux: chmod +x then run the AppImage

Play the first game

Pick easy. Click or press a cell. The timer starts when you release the first cell. Flag a suspect mine with the usual secondary click or the keyboard binding you prefer after one mouse game works.

Options after one win

Open Options for dark or light themes only after a completed easy game. Custom fields come next. Theme guide: keyboard and themes. First run: first run.

Write the update door

Note the exact Releases filename beside the OS version. Prefer the same Qt6 asset family for the next bump. Update guide: update uninstall.

Optional alternates later

Travel laptops benefit from the same boring checklist: one installer door, one extract or Applications path, one note for the next bump.

Keyboard play, dark themes, and custom fields are comfort settings. They come after a proven game on easy. First-hour checklists exist so desks do not chase Options menus too early.

Classroom reimage habit

After every classroom reimage, open LibreMines from the documented path, pick easy, and clear a few cells. That habit catches vanished extract folders and AppImage execute bits that reset under new permissions.
